Glenalmond Timber is a family-run business that has been supplying timber products throughout the UK since 1988.
Situated in the town of Perth, around an hour’s drive north of Edinburgh, Glenalmond has been distributing Abodo products for over five years and now specialises in its supply across the United Kingdom.
“Abodo has become our mainstay, and preferred, offer,” says Managing Director Fraser Steele. “We hold around £1m in stock at any one time at our Perth site, ready for shipping to our production facility. Abodo has been ideal for us in developing the many finishes that we offer – so much so, we don’t feel the need to stock other cladding timbers.”
Following its success supplying to architects, retailers and homeowners across the United Kingdom, Glenalmond has recently been making inroads into the European and North American markets. Due to its stability and natural texture and finish, the products have been widely used for heritage buildings, as well as for modern homes.
One key project was the Aitken House, where Abodo Vulcan cladding in Teak and Ebony was used atop a stone brick lower floor to create a new structure within an historic village in the Southern Borders of Scotland.
Another successful Abodo-clad project is Seacliff View.
Located on a coastal site on the island of Jersey in the English Channel, this project exemplifies the durable nature of Vulcan cladding, even when exposed to harsh weather.
Aside from the versatility and robust nature of the products, sustainability is also a key driver for Glenalmond’s choice to sell Abodo products.
“Sustainability is front and centre at Glenalmond,” says Fraser. “We hold both Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and PEFC certifications, and in 2006, we were involved in creating the first FSC® certified project in the world, using our Ultra joist, finger-jointed timbers and beams.”
Like Abodo, Glenalmond prides itself on celebrating its family roots. This means ensuring reliable quality in all the products it supplies, as well as providing excellent technical capabilities from both a design and production perspective for all its clients.
