The house faces harsh weather on the estuary of the Bass Strait, so durability and low maintenance were key.
For this Melbourne based couple looking to slow down and escape the city, at 60 minutes away Barwon Heads was the perfect bolthole to welcome family at weekends, and eventually retire to.
On an estuary, the site is situated within a stone's throw of the Bass Strait and its ocean spray, coupled with the local weather being harsh, with cold damp winters and hot dry summers of 40 degrees.
The brief for the timber was for something: stable, durable, and low maintenance. Our thermally modified Vulcan timber with silicate protective coating met all three key requirements.
