Introducing / The Future of Wood

In this CPD educational presentation, Lewis will share an in-depth look at the Future of Wood and thermal modification, along with the implications of specifying thermally modified timbers on homes and how thermally modified timbers positively impact the thermal conductivity of a home and its benefits for the inhabitant's health.

He’ll discuss the unique thermal modification process, the use of thermally modified timber in building and share how managed forests play an important part in the biodiversity solution.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand reduction in carbon that results from utilising sustainable timber alternatives to tropical hardwoods.
  • Knowledge of how to use timber when thinking about designing with carbon reduction in mind.
  • Understanding what thermal modification means and how that impacts durability in the built environment.
Speaker Bio: Lewis Marshall | UK Area Manager

Lewis is the Area Manager in the United Kingdom for Abodo. In his role, Lewis provides technical support to Abodo distributors and architects across the UK, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to utilise Abodo's timber effectively. Lewis loves building long-term relationships with construction professionals and believes in the power of sustainable, beautiful buildings to improve both our environment and our lives.

Abodo exists to create feature timbers that stand for something, a movement toward better forestry practices and sustainable innovation. Our new growth, rapidly renewable timbers offer the natural beauty and performance of old growth, made durable through innovation and crafted with care to protect the forests that we can't replace. Abodo timbers sequester more carbon than is used in its production, and by eliminating harmful chemicals thermally modified wood is safe for both people and the planet.
