Will Arnold / Head of Climate Action, The Institution of Structural Engineers
Will explores the changes that the Institution has been championing in the sustainability space over the last three years.
The Institution of Structural Engineers has placed embodied carbon calculation at the heart of its sustainability agenda, expecting its members, totaling more than 30,000, to apply it in their work.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify free sustainability guidance and tools that can be used by architects and engineers to reduce the environmental impact of their work.
- Discover UK cross-industry initiatives that the IStructE has been taking a leading role in to measure, report, reduce and legislate whole-life carbon.
- Learn about the approaches taken by IStructE to create systematic change across its global membership over the last three years.
- Understand how to prioritise material decarbonisation and structural efficiency over the coming decade to tackle emissions on a global scale, not just at a project level.
Speaker bio: Will Arnold
Will leads the Institution’s response to the climate emergency, bringing this action into all aspects of the organisations work, including the publication of best practice emergency guidance. Prior to his current role, he was a practicing structural engineer at Arup for over ten years. He sits on the Structural Awards judging panel and is a member of the Editorial Advisory Group for The Structural Engineer.
